This is a fantastic update—DocuSign Iris really feels like a powerful step forward in applying AI to real-world agreement workflows.
From our experience working with enterprise clients, many organizations—even those with dedicated contract management systems—still manually record contract start and end dates. Features like automatic extraction and reminders are not only more efficient, but also great for cross-checking and updating manually entered data.
For companies without a contract management system, the value is even more significant. Traditionally, they’ve relied on Excel spreadsheets to log key dates, which is time-consuming, error-prone, and lacks automated reminders. A solution like DocuSign Iris provides a streamlined, integrated approach that’s far more reliable and scalable.
Another use case is around contract clause identification. Many small and medium businesses don’t have dedicated legal teams, and being able to use AI to surface critical clauses gives them clarity on what to focus on—without needing to read every line in detail.
All in all, this is a great example of how AI can genuinely boost productivity and reduce risk, not just through automation, but by making agreement insights more accessible and actionable for all types of users. Looking forward to seeing how this evolves!

Thanks so much for this insightful response, @Hengfeng Ge ! You’ve highlighted some of the most powerful benefits of Iris, especially for teams that are juggling manual processes or don’t have dedicated legal resources.
We love hearing how Iris can make a difference across different types of organizations, from those using Excel for tracking dates to SMBs needing help navigating complex clauses. Your real-world perspective on how AI can help validate manually entered data and bring critical information to the surface is exactly the kind of use case Docusign had in mind when building Iris.
Excited to keep the conversation going as Iris evolves—please keep sharing your observations and ideas!
Im looking forward to exploring this further!
Anything I can do to bring about more efficiency and process driven actions is a win in my book!
What are the legal implications associated with someone using the AI summary feature and signing a legal document? I think it opens Docusign and the users up to significant liability when a signer signs that they’ve read the document but Docusign offers to summarize it in lieu of reading it, which is what the pop-up offering seems to be implying. Even if you have a legal disclaimer, I want everyone who signs a legal document that I send them to read it, or if they choose not to read it at least they can’t rely on an excuse that I gave them a legal summary option using AI. I’ve yet to read a legal document that had fluff language. Every word of every line creates a contractual obligation.
Hi @JL91942—Thanks for bringing this up and welcome to the Docusign Community! The Agreement Summary feature gives signers a quick overview of key points in a document. It’s helpful for orientation, but doesn’t replace reading the whole agreement. If you’re the sender and you’d rather not include it, here’s what to do:
- Go to your Signing Settings
- Look under AI Tools in the Signing Experience section
- If your plan includes it, you’ll see an option to disable Agreement Summary
More on how it works
Agreement Summary is powered by Docusign Iris, our AI assistant. It’s designed to save time and make the signing process more efficient.
- Iris uses AI to highlight key details in a document and surface them in the summary.
- Once AI generates suggestions, you get a chance to review them before they’re shared with signers.
- If something seems off, you can give feedback directly in the product.
- We’ve built in a review process to help ensure the AI returns relevant, accurate results.
Just like getting input from a colleague, we recommend reviewing the content to make sure it fits your specific use case. Docusign’s terms also ask that you verify all AI-generated output before using it. Let me know if you’d like help navigating the settings or if you have more questions about Iris!
