Dynamically add Recipients to an Envelope at Send Time

I am implementing DocuSign with Salesforce for a customer.  We will use DocuSign on the Contract object in Salesforce.  I would like to be able to create custom object that would have a lookup to Contract so that I could dynamically add as many signers as I want to this child custom object.   I would add a Contract lookup onto this custom object.  I wanted to use the ‘Related Lists’ feature when I am on the ‘Add Recipient’ screen when setting up my template.   But it seems like that only supports a very limited number of related objects…

Salesforce / DocuSign Apps launcher - I need to add a recipient from a related list of a Custom Object in Document Envelope template. | Community

Is there a best way to do this dynamically?  The client really does not know the maximum number of potential signers for a given Contract/Envelope.  I do not want to have to add 20-30 lookup fields to Contact on the Contract object.

Is there a best practice way to do this?

I am very comfortable with Flows/Apex if a solution would involve using those within Salesforce.

Hello @TerryLuschen,

Welcome to the Docusign Community! It's great to have you here. I understand your request for custom-related lists within Docusign eSignature for Salesforce (DAL).

Currently, DAL only supports the following standard-related list types:

  • Contacts
  • Leads
  • Users
  • OpportunityContactRoles
  • CaseContactRoles

We are tracking a related feature request for this under Enhancement: DFS-14952 (Title: "User is seeking the ability to create and use custom related lists with DocuSign Envelope Templates to add as recipients to envelopes").

In the meantime, you can build a custom solution using the DAL Apex Toolkit. Specifically, the RecipientService class contains the necessary methods to get, add, or remove recipients from envelopes. You can review the documentation here:
Apex Toolkit Overview.

However, if you need technical guidance on implementing the Apex Toolkit, I recommend opening a case with Developer Support.
But if you need hands-on help with implementation, you can purchase additional support from our Professional Services team.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

I marked the one above best answer.   I wish there was a way through the standard UI/Wizard to pull in a Related List like I am describing. But we will be able to build a solid solution around what we have available.  Thanks!!
