Please stop renaming files when I download them

I want to download the combined single pdf of a completed document without you changing the file name to “Complete_with_Docusign_” and truncating the filename. (two distinct issues).

Why is the default to use the subject line of the email? Apart from not wanting you to do this at all, the email is from before the signature and now the document has been signed. I could understand adding “_signed” or “Completed with Docusign” or similar but this makes no sense and I cant believe anyone wants all of their downloaded documents to have half the name used up with identical text.

I would love to see an option or setting for this. Some level of indication that this is the completed/signed version of the file is appropriate. But adding “Complete_with_Docusign_” to every file makes searching useless, it’s too long. And cutting off longer filenames? Well if there weren’t 23 wasted characters in front, I might still have some resemblance of the original file name to search for later. Downloaded file names are a complete mess. This is awful!

Thank you for bringing this up, I too wished that the system would not rename my documents or give you an option of what you would like the name to be.

Every document that is signed through the eSignature system our team has to rename with our naming convention prior to saving in our files.

Hopefully this will move forward!!

From searching online, it sounds like people have been asking for this for years. I’ll add my voice as another vote in favor of fixing this issue or at least making it optional. The only fix I can see is to manually remove “complete with docusign” from the email subject line every time you send an envelope. But it would be ideal for the system not to re-name the file name AT ALL when you download a completed envelope. At the very least, allow us to choose the format of renaming (originalfilename_signed would be a good option).

As someone who works in IT and is constantly trying to help our users search through other user archives for a contract, this is disappointing. Because they are all named “Complete_with_Docusign_onlypartoftheorig.pdf” With only part of the original file name in the file name. It makes finding historical documents nearly impossible. Yes, people are supposed to follow our naming conventions but unfortunately we can’t manage this from the admin side, so people do what they do and take the path of least resistance. Which leaves a big mess behind.

Maybe we should just keep adding this as an Idea until it becomes enough of a bother the “Team” takes some action…
