We would like to request the ability to customize the file naming format for downloaded documents generated from our templates. Specifically, we’d like to automatically apply the following format to the file name upon download:

gDate Signed] Last Name, First Name Document Title
Example: 2025.06.10 Canales, Jessica Work From Home Policy

Ideally, this format would:

  • Be consistent across all documents that use the same template.

  • Apply to all templates within our account.

  • Eliminate the use of underscores in file names.

Currently, downloaded file names appear to be a mix of the email subject and internal document name, often including underscores (e.g., I9_form_exp_2026.07.31). Similarly, envelope downloads with multiple documents are saved as a ZIP file using the email subject with underscores (e.g., Last, First _–_Avalon_Onboarding_Day_1).

We would prefer a more user-friendly and professional naming convention without underscores and with clearer formatting.

Is this level of customization possible? If so, we’d love to implement it across all templates and document packages.

I was wondering the same thing…

I’ve noticed that when downloading PDF documents from DocuSign, the file names consistently contain underscores (_) in place of spaces — for example, "XXXX_XXXX_2025.pdf "instead of "XXXX XXXX 2025.pdf."

This requires manual renaming on my end each time, which can be a bit time-consuming when handling multiple files (+100 each day). I’m wondering if there’s a configuration setting either within DocuSign, the browser, or at the OS level that controls this naming behavior.

Alternatively, if there’s a script, automation tool, or bulk rename utility you’d recommend to streamline this, I’d be happy to try that out.
