Even more confusing here is the “recipient accounts” which differ from an account you created to log into. See below information I received from Docusign support.
Different name formats and email addresses provided will be considered by our system as a different person.
For example: If the name is John Doe on the user's account, but the envelope was sent to John D. Doe, system will recognize this format as a different person even if the sender/owner is assuming that this person is the same person.
If the email format is provided as JohnDoe@123.com on the user’s account and the sender provides the email as johndoe@123.com most likely system will recognize this email as a different person and thus the envelope/document will not route to the user's account, instead our system will create a non-active recipient account so that signer on the envelope has the option to sign the document.
Recipient Account Defined
A recipient account, also known as a "Signer Account" is not the same as your current, active Docusign Account(s). You can't log into it, for example. It's a placeholder account that only lives on our system behind the scenes. It often gets created when someone sends you a Docusign envelope to sign when this doesn’t route to an already-existing account. It won't cause any harm to close it, and it won't cost you anything.
Since recipient accounts could be linked with any envelopes you signed outside of your active Docusign account(s), we recommend that you open the links you've used in the past that are associated with any envelopes that aren't already in your Docusign account(s), and download a copy of those documents so that you can retain them on your computer. You may already have the documents from these envelopes easily accessible in your emails as attachments, and this step wouldn't be necessary. We recommend to download any of these envelopes before responding to this email, so you can ensure to have copies stored locally of envelopes where you were involved.
