Dear DocuSign Community,

I would sincerely appreciate your guidance on who might be able to help me resolve the following situation:

Recently, I received a PDF contract from a company, allegedly signed by me last year. The issue is that I had no knowledge of DocuSign at that time. It wasn’t until now that I realized the document was issued through DocuSign. Since I didn’t know about the platform last year, I could not have generated or authorized any signature back then.

It was only recently, while trying to understand the document—where my signature appears to have been forged—that I started learning about DocuSign. I even created my own electronic signature through the platform, and it looks nothing like the one that appears on the contract supposedly signed last year.

I want to clearly state that I did not sign that document, nor did I authorize anyone to sign on my behalf. However, I am now being asked to comply with the terms in that file, which is why I need to verify its authenticity and origin.

The only thing the company gave me is a PDF. When I open it in Adobe Acrobat, it shows the message “At least one signature is not valid.” Clicking on the signature panel displays “Signed by unknown.” I asked the company for the certificate generated by DocuSign, but they only briefly showed something on a screen labeled “Certificate of Completion,” without allowing me to properly view the details.

As I am still learning how DocuSign works, I believe the company should have sent me the supposedly signed contract along with a full Certificate of Completion, which contains important technical information about how the signature was created.

Therefore, I would sincerely like to ask for your help to find out if there is a way DocuSign can validate the traceability of this document that I did not sign.

Specifically, I would like help to understand:

  1. Whether there is a way to determine if the company impersonated me or used my identity without consent.
  2. Whether any electronic signature has ever been registered under my name.
  3. How I can obtain the Certificate of Completion and technical metadata associated with the document (IP address, type of authentication used, location, etc.).

Thank you very much for your attention, and I look forward to any feedback or suggestions you may have.

Kind regards,
Roxana

@Roxana:

It sounds like they hope to force you into compliance.

from the DocuSign Trust page:

https://www.docusign.com/trust/security/incident-reporting#improper-use-of-docusign

“If you don’t have access to the envelope or the envelope email notification, you can submit a report directly through our online web portal i-Sight (https://docusign.i-sight.com/portal).

Please note that Docusign doesn't access envelope contents, even if authorized by the customer or recipient/complainant. Supporting evidence is often necessary to identify an offending account, substantiate the report, and assess the severity of the violation. You can provide evidence as a file attachment during the reporting process. “

good luck
