How to Lock Recipient Name option prevents recipients from changing their name when adopting a signature?

Hello irfan,

The checkbox for “Lock Recipient name” is an account wide setting and can be changed by your DocuSign Administrator as follows:

Login to DocuSign Web App -> Settings -> Signing Settings -> Signature Adoption Configuration -> Lock Recipient Name

When checked, the recipient will not able to make changes to his name when signing an envelope.

When unchecked, the recipient will be able to make changes to his name when signing an envelope, e.g. adding/removing a middle name or correcting, if there was a spelling error.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the clarification above! I have a related question regarding recipient restrictions in templates and envelopes.

Where exactly can I find the option to:

  • Prevent recipients from signing more than once

  • Restrict them from accessing the envelope again after signing

  • Block any ability for the recipient to edit or alter the envelope content

I’ve tried editing the recipient settings in templates (under Customize > Advanced Settings), but I don’t see a clear checkbox labeled “Don’t allow recipient to sign more than once” or anything related to restricting access post-signature.

Is this controlled by account-wide settings, template behavior, or only available through API or custom roles?

Appreciate your help!

Hello @himasri,
Thank you for reaching out, and a warm welcome to the Docusign Community! Your presence here is greatly valued, and we're all about sharing knowledge and supporting each other. We are sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

From what I understand, you are looking for a setting that would control recipient access and editing capabilities after they've finished signing. Did I get it right? Please note that Docusign does not have a direct setting to block signers from accessing envelopes after they have finished signing, as envelopes are always accessible in the recipient's Docusign Inbox. You could disable "Attach documents to completion email" notifications for completed envelopes. However, even with this setting, as mentioned, recipients can still access the envelope within their inbox. 👉 Envelope Delivery

As for preventing recipients from editing, please provide more details. Are there any specific scenarios, requirements you have, or can you please clarify whether you would like to prevent signers from editing an in-progress envelope or avoid tampering a completed envelope/document?
