Has anyone experienced an issue with a file size ballooning after a recipient signed the file in Docusign?  A contract that was originally 13 mb increased to 104 mb after being signed in Docusign.  This has never happened before and we use this type of contract every day with no prior issues.  I can’t do anything with the signed file (email, upload to other software, archive) because of the file size. (And I’ve tried the available options in Adobe to compress or reduce file size and it never decreases the file size significantly).  Thanks.

Hello @Anne M,
Thank you for reaching out, and welcome to the Docusign Community! We appreciate your question and assure you that we are fully committed to providing you with the best service possible.

The file size increases when signed because information is added to the PDF.
The extension of the file size growth will depend on some factors such as the signature appearance, which can use an image, additional signature information (reason, location, etc.), the key algorithm used, the digital ID type, and so on. If a detailed high-resolution photo is used in the chosen appearance instead of a 2-color gif logo, the difference in the size increase will be big.

File Size Limitations for an Envelope

Along with the file format, there are file size and page count limitations for your file uploads.

MAXIMUM FILE SIZE 25 MB
RECOMMENDED FILE SIZE 5 MB
MAXIMUM # PAGES PER DOCUMENT 2,000 pages
MAXIMUM # PAGES PER ENVELOPE 5,000 pages

For best performance, Docusign recommends restricting your file uploads to no more than 5 MB.

The 25-MB maximum file size limit is the maximum size of an individual file uploaded to an envelope.

For the completed PDF to be included with the completed email notification, the size cannot exceed 5 MB. If the completed documents are larger than 5 MB, the email provides a link to the documents on the Docusign system.

@Anne M

Did your signer upload a custom signature? If the signature is the only thing “added” to the document, maybe ask if they could use a new/different signature?

good luck
