When our bank started using DocuSign we were ‘masking’ account numbers within the document names, but I can’t remember why we were doing this. Does anyone know what the risk is for the customer if we don’t mask? Thanks, Sharon

I do have a follow up question. The information we can mask are the document names and the subject line on the envelope, what we cannot mask are the documents themselves that have personal info. Wouldn’t a fraudster be able look at the document as well or could they only see the document name and subject line of the envelope?
Thanks for your help in fully understanding.
Sharon
Hello
You can specify on the text field to “hide the text with asterisk” for sensitive data. This will conceal the specified fields on the document. The sender can view or download the form data for the envelope to reveal the hidden data.
This feature may need to be enabled by your DocuSign Administrator or may not be included in your DocuSign plan. For future reference, you may check this relevant article How to Hide Text.

My question was more about if an email got compromised can the fraudster actually get to the document itself? We can’t mask the info on the document because we wouldn’t be able to tell which account number the signature card was for and who’s SSN was used. So are you saying even if we mask the document name and the subject field, the info on the document itself could be compromised?
Thanks, Sharon
Hello
I just wanted to clarify that as a sender, what you can hide from your recipient’s view are sensitive information such as SSN, account number and etc., You have the option to mask it as asterisk, but you can definitely have the option to view those details on your end as “sender.” Please see relevant article How to Hide Text. The subject line and the document name will not be hidden as these will be the initial information your recipient will see when they receive the envelope they need to sign.
To secure and protect your document, we recommend you put ‘Recipient Authentication’ like Phone Authentication, SMS Authentication, and Knowledge-Based ID checks, so that, in the event that a fraudster will be able to get into your recipient's email, envelope will not be easily accessed because recipient may need to prove his/her identity prior accessing the envelope. You may check this relevant article Authentication Settings.
