A contract was sent for signature via DocuSign to one of our directors by the counterparty.

However, we also require the signature of a second director on the same document.

If I upload the document already signed by the first director into a new DocuSign envelope and send it to the second director for signature, will the original certificate of completion be lost? Or is there a way to preserve the integrity of the initial signature within this new process?

Moreover, from a legal standpoint, the three signatures would still be valid, having been collected at different times, by different individuals, and in separate envelopes.!

Hello @CamilaFranca,

Thank you for reaching out, and welcome to the Docusign Community! I appreciate you bringing your question to this Community.

If you upload a document already signed by the first director, a new Certificate of Completion (COC) will be generated. This new certificate will only reflect the actions within its own envelope and will not contain the audit trail details of the first signature collection from the original envelope. The original COC for the first signature will remain with its initial envelope. This process would create a separate audit trail, as there would be a separate COC for each signing event.

To ensure a single, comprehensive certificate of completion, we recommend sending the document for all required signatures within a single envelope, utilizing envelope routing. This will ensure one comprehensive COC detailing all signing events for the document.

While Docusign facilitates legally compliant electronic signatures under various global laws, please note that we do not offer legal advice and are unable to comment on the legal implications or validity of signatures in your specific situation.
