Core Problem

My organization has implemented Docusign-Connect to send completed envelope to our Laserfiche storage system. This Works as intended for envelopes with a single template however multi-template envelopes additional templates do not express retrain their Envelope Custom fields metadata correctly when transferred to Laserfiche, and instead assume the Envelope Custom Field data of the initial template.

Current Design

Each Template has 4 key pieces of metadata

  1. Template Category: This could be either Custom Envelope or Document Field and is a static value for the template. Currently set to an Envelope Custom Field.
  2. Template Sub-Category:  This could be either Custom Envelope or Document Field and is a static value for the template. Currently set to an Envelope Custom Field.
  3. Recipient Account Number: This is currently a Custom Document Field on each template
  4. Completed File name: This is correctly separating into multiple files based on template pdf file name.

Design Limitations

  1. Recipient account number cannot be created by staff until after the paperwork has been signed. This applies to about 10 out of 100 of our forms. As such we’ve added the Recipient account Number step as the last step post signing but before staff “completes” the envelope.

Current Output once sent to Laserfiche

  1. Category and Sub-Category: are applied from the Primary template to all other attached templates, and secondary template category custom envelope field meta-data is replaced. This results in secondary templates and their resulting forms being categorized as whatever the primary template is.

After discussing with my Laserfiche team the core issue seems to be the metadata fields are mapped 1 to 1. So new entry replaces old entry if an envelope has multiple identical Envelope or document custom data fields. Since it’s 1 to 1 on the Laserfiche side it's also not possible to have a unique template specific data field for each of about 120 different templates.

I still think there’s a solution, it’s hard to believe Docusign would release a product like Connect that fundamentally breaks a core feature like multi-template envelopes.

Hello Admin,

Thank you for contacting Docusign Community Support.

We apologize for the inconvenience. We see that Connect provides both fields but only one value.

You should create a Support Case to get more information about this behavior:
