CLM - MS 365 online editor formatting issues

When editing a document generated in CLM with tables and conditions, a specific table row content is deleted using MS 365 online editor. By doing that, the formatting of other three different table rows break (different table).

The weird thing is that it only happens using MS 365 online. When we use download and edit in desktop word app, the formatting is correct.

It is not the first time I see formatting issues with MS365 online in CLM. Another case I saw a few months ago was that the formatting and spacing of a template changed completely if we open using MS365 or in Word Desktop app.

Anyone know the root cause and how to fix?

Hello @chsjunior

Welcome to the Docusign Community!

From my experience, there is a different layout and rendering behavior in Word Online compared to Word Desktop. Word Online is a lighter editor designed mainly for viewing and basic edits. Complex table structures such as row break rules, pagination, fixed heights, nested or merged cells, and style inheritance.

Best Practice:
For complex CLM documents, prefer the Desktop workflow. Edit in Word Desktop and then sync back to CLM Docusign. This approach avoids web rendering bugs and ensures consistent formatting during heavy table edits.

Thanks!

@Pawan Gangwani thank you for the response. That makes sense and based on my experience makes total sense.

The client is not happy with this response but that’s life 😁. I opened a case with DS Support just in case they can contribute as well. Thank you!

Yeah! I can understand. I would also suggest try DS “Word Add-In” see if it fits with the requirement.

Thanks!
