Hello @tamekiap,

Thanks for reaching out, and welcome to the Docusign Community!

You can customize the subject line for each webform submission by configuring merge fields in the template use for the webform. This ensures that every submission dynamically inserts values (such as the signer’s name or email) into the subject line, rather than using a static one.

  1. Open your template in DocuSign.

  2. Go to Add Message > Subject

  3. Insert merge field codes

  4. Save the template.

  5. When the Webform is submitted, DocuSign generates an envelope and automatically replaces the merge fields with the signer's actual values.

The subject line cannot be edited directly in the web form setup. All customization must be defined in the template, and the webform simply passes signer-entered values into those merge fields.

Hi tamekiap,
Not sure what you are looking to do but I use a formula to pull information from the template as the email subject for our internal Purchase and Travel Request Form.
The information comes from the Web Form API reference name:

The confusing part of the formula is that you need to eliminate the underscores and add a blank space instead of the underscores for the formula to work.  [[ECF:Travel Start Date]]_[[ECF:Initiator name]]_[[ECF:Travel Destination]]

The Subject is limited to 100 Characters too so this can be a factor because the formula fields are longer than the actual results that the formula returns.  I’ve made the suggestion the subject character count increases or a formula field to be added as the subject that would limit the results to 100 characters.

Best of luck with your Web Form.
