Accessing reason given for voiding?

I've looked through search results for "reason void" (and variations of that query) and can't seem to locate what a sender can find out about a voided document, specifically what reason a decliner gave for declining to sign.

Is this text in the certificate of completion or somewhere else?  Would it be available to anyone who has access to that certificate, such as other signers?

The Certificate of Completion (CoC) doesn't show the reason for voiding or the reason for declining. You can   find the reason for voiding in the envelope History; the History will show it was "expired" or show the reason for voiding if the sender voided the document.  If the recipient declined and a reason was provided, that reason will show in the History as well.  An envelope's CoC and History are available to both the sender and the recipient/signer.

You can also run an "Envelope" or "Document" Report and include "Void Reason" and "Decline Reason" filters to find all of the reasons for those envelope statuses.

thanks! In my testing, it appears that signers do not have to enter any text for the decline reason. This matches what you suggest, that 'if...a reason was provided', where it can be found. This quick tip page indicates that the signer is required to provide a reason: https://www.docusign.com/blog/quick-tip-tuesday-deleting-or-voiding-envelopes-in-docusign/

(that page also indicates that a sender is required to provide a reason, which I haved tested and confirmed.)

that's correct.  Unless the "Require Decline Reason" is checked in the Account Features, then the signer will not have to provide a reason he/she declined.  I think the "Quick Tip" made the assumption that the Account had this feature turn "on", thus a reason to Decline is required.  If a sender voids the document, a reason is alway required.

You can take "Decline Reason" a step further and change the "Decline Reason" free-form text box to a drop-down.  Many clients use the drop-down option so they can easily control, track and act on pre-set "decline" reasons.  Check out our (https://support.docusign.com/guides/cdse-admin-guide-branding) Branding Resource  (page 82) to accomplish this  :)

This is a Great Discussion,

An admin can configure the decline reason requirement  in

I will have the quick tip updated.

Thanks for surfacing.

I see that this is 8 years old but is there a way still to have decline reason as a dropdown?

@mshealy

You could add this suggestion to the “Ideas” list. (Top of the screen - there’s a menu (Get Started - Get Inspiration - Discussion - Groups - Events - IDEAS - FAQs). Not sure if anyone is looking at the suggestions, but at least you will have tried :-)

Can the reason for declining field be accessed via a CLM workflow?  I would like to capture the reason for declining and include it in a send email step in my workflow.
