Suggestion for a “Need to View with Approval” Option in DocuSign

Hello,

We have a use case regarding the “Needs to View” option in DocuSign. In our process, we always include one person as a contract reviewer first, and then, in step two, the person who needs to sign the contract.

The challenge is that with the current “Need to View” setting, the reviewer can only see the contract, and the document automatically continues to the signer afterward.

However, in some cases, the reviewer may not agree with the content and would need to stop the contract from being sent forward.What we would really need is an enhanced option — something like a “Reviewer (View + Block if needed)” role. This would allow the reviewer to either let the contract proceed or block the workflow after their review.

Thanks so much for your idea, @marie.rssr

After reviewing your suggestion, we found that you can already achieve this using existing DocuSign features. Instead of using Needs to View, you can set your reviewer as someone who Needs to Sign, and then include an Approve/Decline field for them.

With this setup, the reviewer can still review the document first, and if everything looks good, they simply approve it, and the envelope continues to the actual signer. On the other hand, if they find something that shouldn’t move forward, they can decline, which effectively stops the workflow right there. It ends up functioning very similarly to the “Reviewer (View + Block if needed)” role you described.
