Admin‑Controlled Expiration Threshold Policies

Docusign currently allows senders to set long or inconsistent envelope expiration dates, which creates compliance, risk, and operational issues. Admins lack a way to enforce expiration limits outside of templates.

Proposed Capability
Introduce an account‑level admin control to manage envelope expiration behavior:

  • Allow admins to lower the maximum allowed expiration threshold globally. (Currently set to 999 days)
  • Support expiration threshold policies (e.g., default max of X days).
  • Enable user‑ or group‑based exemptions to these thresholds.
  • Policies should apply outside of templates and not rely on sender behavior.

Value

  • Improves compliance and risk management
  • Reduces stale or forgotten envelopes
  • Aligns Docusign governance with enterprise security and records‑management standards
  • Minimizes reliance on templates as the only enforcement mechanism

Use Case
Most users are restricted to a short expiration window, while certain users can be exempted based on business need.
