Question

Identity Verification Bypass

I have internal signers that do not want to have to do the Identity verification questions on a packet. We still want the clients to have to do the Identity verification. Is it possible to verify the internal users via their email address and to have the external clients verify by the Identity verification questions.

Yes, this can be configured for each recipient. If you want to skip identity verification for internal signers, you can do so.

However, I would doublecheck for which reasons IDV was chosen for the specific use case. It may be that the IDV is configured to apply a qualified electronic signature as an outcome, which may be required for internal signers as well. As you refer to answering questions, I assume you to Knowledge-based authentication? In that case, it would not result in a QES and should be fine, but please double check internally before making any chances.

We do need the IDV to apply a qualified signature. I think this is why we are running into this issue. We have internal users that want to bypass this but we need a qualified signature from the clients. My question is if this is something we can do how do we do it? We have been searching and can’t seem to find the option.

If you need to apply a QES, there is no option to bypass IDV and add a QES without authentication.

Docusign offers various options and modules to execute an identity verification and apply a signature type. Therefore, without knowing what is actually configured in your account, it cannot be answered with confidence.

If you use for example IDV Premier, the identity verification only needs to be done once and the identity can be stored in a wallet. Through this the following envelopes can be signed more easily, by doing a wallet authentication, but the same signature type will be applied.

Our IDV is done through questions. I it possible to have the external clients do the questions for IDV and have internal do like a one time passcode or a link in their e-mail for a QES?

@Rachael.Johnson

I suggest to reach out to your Customer Success Account Manager (CSAM) to clarify those account specific details on what identity verification and signature types are available based on your current Docusign subscription.

From my experience, knowledge-based authentication (KBA) and qualified electronic signatures (QES) are not used in the same use case. KBA is only available in the US while QES are regulated under eDIAS in the European Union.
