I am using a free DocuSign developer account and encountering the following error when trying to send an envelope:
“The recipient limit on the envelope has been exceeded. The cumulative recipient limit has been exceeded.”

I am unsure about the exact recipient limits for free developer accounts. In my case, the number of recipients per envelope is relatively small (2-3), yet this error still occurs. Could you please clarify what the exact recipient limits are for free developer accounts? Also, are there any ways to resolve or work around this issue?

I'm sorry to hear you're encountering an error. I understand you're currently using a free Docusign developer account.
 

The free trial plans allow up to 5 signers per each envelope, if you would like to add more, you would need to purchase a Docusign plan: Docusign Plans

 

Paid plans allow up to 99 recipients: How To Add Recipients
 


In our case, we only have a maximum of 3 recipients on a single template. However, we’re still getting the following error: The recipient limit on the envelope has been exceeded. The cumulative recipient limit has been exceeded.

Just to clarify, do you mean that the free trial only allows sending a total of 5 envelopes during the 30-day period?

We’re currently in the development and testing phase of our project, and I’m wondering how we can properly test the signing flow if we’re limited to just 5 envelopes. Is there a way to get more envelopes for testing, or do you offer a sandbox environment for development purposes?

We're genuinely sorry about the error message encountered when sending out envelopes in your Developer account.

The error you experienced is likely related to a limitation within the Demo environment regarding the number of recipients across all envelopes sent within a specific timeframe. This measure is in place for security reasons. However, you can create a support case so our support team can validate the possibility of removing the limitations to facilitate your testing needs.
