I am using Java for my development. Is there a way to allow the signer to choose where to place their signature? I tried leaving out the tabs field within the signer, but in that case it considers the signature as not required, or it even allows the user to "bypass" it by filling in other fields (company, date, etc.).

In my case, I would like to keep only the signature option active (the person's name), and also ensure that the process is only actually completed once the signature has been provided.

Hi @falk27

Thanks for reaching out to the Docusign Community.

If the document is sent without predefined recipient fields, DocuSign automatically presents a toolbar, allowing recipients to drag and drop signatures, initials, dates, and other fields anywhere on the document. In this case, the signer must place at least one tab (such as a Signature) to complete the envelope. You cannot force the signer to place a specific tab or even determine how many tabs can be placed.
Note that you can add a recipient type "Allow to Edit" who is not assigned any fields, but can edit the entire envelope. Learn more about when to use Allow To Edit below.

Best regards,
