Purpose of TemplateDocumentFields resource

What is the purpose of TemplateDocumentFields (https://developers.docusign.com/docs/esign-rest-api/reference/templates/templatedocumentfields/)?

I can't find any scenario for this objects. 

How to interact with this via UI? Can somebody explain the idea behind this?

Hi,

I have a template that contains custom fields created along with documentation you sent. /temaples/{templateId}/documents/{documentId}/fields endpoint returns empty array. Custom fields can be found with /temaples/{templateId}/documents/{documentId}/tabs endpoint. Then I wonder what if the purpose of …/fields.
