Testing a Document

We are creating a rather complex document / form for someone to sign.  They need to answer questions (yes/no and true/false) and are using conditional formatting for a few of them as well.  However, we would like to test out the form before sending it but it seems like the only way to test is to send it to ourselves.  Is there any way a document can be viewed/tested without going through the signing process?  It would be a big help!  Thanks.

Hello @ddailey2457,

Welcome to the Docusign Community! We appreciate you taking the time to participate. Thank you for your question.

While you can’t fully bypass the signing process when sending documents for signature, you do have a few options to test your documents before sending.

  • You can use the “Preview” function to preview your envelope and documents within the web interface without sending them out.

  • Use a Docusign Developer (demo) account, which will let you simulate, sign, and send envelopes in a risk-free environment. You can sign up for a free developer account here 👉 Get your free developer account.

I have uploaded a blank contract that is laid out with specific spots for names and addresses etc. as a template.  I have created numerous text boxes so our salesman can input customer data, project data, write up a scope of work etc.  I would like to preview it to make sure all the text is aligned correctly and all of the spacing between text boxes works out.  When I click on the preview button, I can walk through the steps but when I view it as the recipient, the text I have typed into the boxes does not appear (defeating the purpose of the preview).  It seems like the only way I can truly test this out is by sending (and using up) an envelope.  If it takes 2 or 3 tries to get everything correct, I burn 2 or 3 envelopes out of my 100.  I shouldn’t have to waste envelopes to make sure Docusign is doing what I need it to.  Is there some option that I am missing?
