Hi

I currently use Word Documents and add the /sn1/ tag.  I then send the document for signing via the DocuSign REST API.

My question is, what tags can I add in my Word document to capture free text or dates? I don’t want the end user to have to drag on the fields.

Thanks,

@ExpediteLaw

You can add document custom fields with the related AutoPlace defined to your Docusign account. When sending via API these will automatically be applied and you can add any field type that is available.

Here is an example from Salesforce.com, but you are free to name the fields however you like to, as described here.

To add to Michael’s response, the point is that you can really use any AutoPlace text you want for any field type, as long as that anchor text appears only where you want that field to be placed.  If you, for example, create a document custom field for a text field on your account with the AutoPlace text of /text{r}/ and then you ensure that this text is situated on your documents where you want that text field to go (or added dynamically via an API call) than the text field will be added in that spot, assigned to whatever number you use to replace the {r} merge tag.

Here’s some more information from our Developer Center on utilizing AutoPlace fields in your API Calls. Note that in their example, they use the sample AutoPlace text of “Please sign here.” They’re using a signature field in the example like you are, but this can be any field type.

Really appreciate the quick response.  As suggested, I’m starting my journey here https://support.docusign.com/s/document-item?language=en_US&bundleId=pik1583277475390&topicId=zus1583277381502.html&_LANG=enus

I can see the Document Custom Fields menu and will try this today.

Thanks
