Signing documents encrypted by Microsoft Information Protection

We use Purview and have word docs protected by information protection that encrypts the docs at time of sending/creation.

When a user uploads doc for e-signature it fails.

What is best process to enable the user to sign these docs?

Because the document is encrypted, Docusign does not have the ability to remove protection or read its contents. Consequently, uploads for e-signing will fail. You might want to create a dedicated “signable” Label or Policy.

If you inspect the Metadata on a PDF that has been created by DocuSign you should see that the PDF Producer is ‘Docusign DMv10’. Purview DLP should be able to detect this Metadata (even if the PDF is encrypted) and subsequently be able to identify that the PDF has been produced by the DocuSign platform by using the ‘Document Property is’ condition, which is available in DLP policies for Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business and On-Premises Files. It also has a ‘low cost of evaluation’ according to Microsoft.

‘Document property is’ - Detects documents with custom properties matching specified values. For example: Department = 'Marketing', Project = 'Secret'. To specify multiple values for a custom property, use double quotes. For example, "Department: Marketing, Sales". Supported file types are Office and PDF
