I sent an envelope last month, it shows up on a report as being sent but there is no capability to see the original document.  I resent a new document a few days later which I can open but nothing allows me to see the original.  

@MWeilers What happened to the original envelope? Was it deleted?   

Deleted envelope are saved for only 24 hours in the Deleted folder and then removed from DocuSign.  If deleted there would be no way of opening the envelope further and viewing the document.  The only option I could think of would be to reach out to other Recipients who were sent that envelope and did not delete that envelope only left it as voided.
