Horrendous support for Checkbox Group Validation defects

For a month now, DocuSign support has been taking me around in circles. There is a major defect in the checkbox group validation, By selecting the “Exactly 1”, or “No more than 1” validation option, the end-user should be able to check only one box out of the selected Checkbox Group (and not be able to select multiple check boxes), however this is not working as designed. The end result is the user can select (and check) all the checkboxes in the group. To make it worse, the Start/Next button function individually highlights each and every checkboxes in the group during the signing process.

I have shown this issue via screen sharing three times now, and thereafter the support team fails to send the issue to development, fails to update the ticket, and then sends me an email days later asking if I am still having an issue.

This has been an endless cycle of the following:

  1. The issue is shown to support via a screen sharing session.
  2. Support completely agrees the function is not working and states they will have development correct the issue.
  3. Days later an email is sent to me asking if I still need assistance.
  4. I respond letting them know the issue was not fixed and the issue needs to be sent to development.
  5. I get on a call with them and see nothing has been addressed, and am told again the issue will be sent to development, however it never actually is.
  6. The cycle restarts again with an email asking me if I still need assistance on how to set up checkboxes.

I never write bad reviews but this is the absolute worst support I have ever seen, and the worst managed support team I have ever encountered.

@DDIRC

As already stated this works as designed and is expected behaviour. The user is able to tick more than one box, but unable to continue until the validation criteria is met, which means he has to untick some checkboxes until the validation criteria is met.

If you want them to be only able to tick a single value, I recommend to use the radio button instead of a checkbox, which will have the behaviour you are looking for by default. It will not allow to select more than one value in the user interface.

@Michael.Rave I was having issues with the check boxes as well. Thank you for suggesting the radio feature.  This was a good solution to get the form to perform like I needed it too.

I too am having the same issue as @DDIRC  → By selecting the “Exactly 1”, or “No more than 1” Validation option within the new Checkbox Group it does not restrict the end user to only 1 checkbox option.

Hi @EliU,

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Using Radio Groups instead of checkboxes has proven to be a good alternative for these scenarios. Is this a possibility in your case?

Otherwise, we would need to take a closer look at the issue to confirm what it’s root cause could be.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else in the meantime and I will look into it as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Radio groups is only available on a higher tier plan, not the standard plan.

Hi @EliU,

Thank you for following up.

In that case it will be best for us to take a closer look at the issue through a live contact such as a screensharing session, in order to locate the root cause of the issue. To do so, please create a case and have a Support Expert look closely at your setup.
https://support.docusign.com/en/contactSupport
If you cannot open the case on the same page, you should scroll down to More Support Options and select "I can't reset my password or don't have an account." you will have the option of filling out the form or calling Support.

Hello, I am also having the same issue. I am working on a Template.  I have created several Checkbox Groups (using the Plus sign) with multiple checkboxes.  I need the signer to check 1 box only from the list of the choices.  I have tried changing the Checkbox Validation to:

  • Select at least 1
  • Select at most 1, 2, 3 etc.
  • Select exactly 1
  • Select a range - and I’ve tried 1-1, 1-2, etc.

If I can get the group to be labeled “optional”  the prompt still makes the signer go thru every option.  It should select one from the group and then move to the next section.  However some checkbox groups remain as “required” and prompt the signer to check off all of the boxes in teh group even though the Checkbox Validation says otherwise.

I do not have the option to choose a Radio button

Hi @KATH07712,

Thank you for reaching out to the Docusign Community.

The Select at least 1 option should allow the signer to pick 1 checkbox and let them complete the field. If you are looking for the group to only accept 1 answer, then you will need to use Radios instead.

Let me know if I can help clarify any other questions or concerns and I will look into them as soon as possible.

@DDIRC

That means Docusign knowingly designed the software with a flaw. If only one checkbox can be selected in order to submit the form, then only one checkbox should be allowed to be selected.

I’ve used multiple e=sig software and Docusign is literally the only one which does not understand how illogical this is.

“He has to untick some checkboxes until the validation criteria is met”

That is literally the issue -- users should only be allowed to check one box before moving on to the next field. I don’t understand how you and the rest of Docusign’s support team don’t understand that you are just making more work for the signatories.. and making your company look foolish TBH.

“If you want them to be only able to tick a single value”

Well, yes, that is the point of the validation requirement, is it not??

It will not allow to select more than one value in the user interface.

Exactly why the system should not permit signatories to select more than one value in the first place (when the “exactly 1” validation criteria has been select)

How does this not make sense -- if the “exactly 1” validation criteria is in place, then users should only be able to check exactly 1 box.

Maybe this will help the developers understand why this is an issue:

When the “exactly 1” validation requirement is in place, how does allowing signatories to check multiple boxes, and then require they go back and uncheck all but one box benefit the signatory??

No, if your system permits data validation on checkbox groups, then that validation should actually work.
