The filled out fields in an uploaded lease PDF appear blank in docusign. Had to send via Adobe Acrobat. Can’t send a lease for signature if the fillable fields are blank. What went wrong? Must forms be filled out in DocuSign?

Docusign relies on the PDF's underlying structure. If the PDF's fillable fields were not created or saved properly, Docusign may be unable to convert them into Docusign fields.
What you should do as a solution is as follows.
1. Fill the PDF with Adobe Acrobat/Reader:
- Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat or Reader and fill out the fields using Adobe's tools.
- Print to a new PDF: After filling the form in Adobe, "Print" it to a new PDF file to resolve the issue.
- Upload the saved PDF: Upload this newly created PDF to Docusign.
2. Use Docusign's Tools:
- Upload the blank PDF: Upload the PDF to a Docusign envelope.
- Add fields with Docusign: Drag and drop the required Docusign fields onto the document to ensure they are properly recognized and formatted.

Make sure the original PDF is a true fillable form. Some forms are created as "images" or "non-interactive," and you won't be able to type in them.
