Hello, I am trying to figure out how to block Signers from downloading a copy of their documents until they have fully completed the signature process. Is that possible? Thanks

I don’t believe so no.  If a recipient opens the envelope (and doesn’t sign), they can still download the base document.  I assume this is to facilitate people who would download the document and print it and then sign in person.

Are you wanting them to acknowledge the receipt of the files before showing them the files?

Hello and thanks for the reply. I didn’t think this was possible, but I thought I’d ask anyway. No, ackowledgement doesn’t solve the issue.

Yes, dealing with older and/or computer illiterate customers, and a fair number simply bypass the Docusign signing features, print out the documents (with “In Process” plastered across each page), and then sign, scan and email us their forms (which is useless). Was trying to find a way to stop that from happening.

@AlisaRefunds

There is a “wet signature” option that can be turned on. It won’t prevent anyone downloading the file before they sign - but it will prevent the “in progress” watermark and it will preserve the certification ( I think).

Not an ideal solution, but it might work for you.

good luck

Hello @AlisaRefunds,

Thanks for reaching out, and a warm welcome to the Docusign Community! Great question!

While it's not possible to block recipients from downloading or printing documents within the eSignature workflow, you can customize the user interface. The ability to remove download or print buttons from the user interface can be achieved by modifying the Signing Resource file. Resource files are optional files that allow you to control the text elements in your account signing view and emails. Article: Resource Files

Important: Customizing resource files is an advanced branding configuration option that can significantly impact your account, and should be done only by someone with expertise in XML and HTML. The master resource files are subject to change without notice. If you customize your resource files, after each release, Docusign recommends you review any changes and update your custom files as needed.

However, if the recipient has a Docusign account, they can still log into their account and then download and print a document.

Note: Some advanced features and options are supported only in specific DocuSign plans. Your account plan might not support some of the options discussed in this help topic. Contact your account administrator for more information about which options are available for your account. Or, visit our Plans and Pricing web page for more details on the features included with your plan. Compare eSignature plans & pricing.

Let us know if you have questions. Thank you!
