I am going to replace the document of my template with its new version. Some fields (powered by DocuSign) will be deleted and some new ones are to be added.

My concern is, does it take effect to already signed and submitted documents? If I delete some DocuSign fields, are those fields deleted from older documents?

Hi @KotaM, thanks for the question and welcome to the community 😊

Editing a template will only affect future documents created from that template! It won’t affect any older documents.

Here’s a little bit more detail just as an FYI:

  • Once a document is created from a template, it becomes its own independent copy. Editing the template won’t change it, and editing the created document only affects that specific document.

  • During the time the document is in progress (Sent or Delivered), the only way to actually make edits show up is to use the Correct feature on that specific document.

  • Once it’s Signed and Completed, the document is basically frozen in that state, and it’s not possible for it to change.

Thanks again for the question, hope this helps!
