Hi,

Are Docusign fields supposed to have solid white backgrounds during the signing phase? I expected them to be transparent and not cover up any of the form lines/text all the way through, but in my account as soon as I kick a doc out for signing all of the fields take on a solid white background which looks terrible and is concerning since they turn to the expected transparent upon full execution...when I sign something I want to look exactly like it did when I signed it.

Is this a bug or some setting I can change?

Screenshots below (read captions):

Editing Doc in Room (all good)
Preparing for signing, still good
Previewing...OK whaaaaaat is this. Maybe it’s just preview? read on
During signing. Nope this looks terrible during signing.
But wait! After everyone signs it looks as expected...OK is this a bug?

Hello @ktre
Thank you for reaching out, and welcome to the Docusign Community! We appreciate your question and assure you that we are fully committed to providing you with the best service possible.

We tested it multiple times to see if the behavior is expected. It's not transparent during the signing process. However, after signing, the field is transparent if you download the document. It’s a standard behavior for non-required text fields not to appear on the preview page. To ensure the text field is visible in the preview, you will need to mark it as required.

By the way, an idea post that has already been submitted related to this matter.  If you'd like, you can copy it and add it as a comment on this submitted idea .https://docusign-en.insided.com/ideas/formatting-of-fields-needs-transparent-and-color-change-ability-for-background-5581 for Docusign to consider.

Thanks Ma. Cassandra. I’ll check out the idea. Regardless of if the field is required or not, to me this is unexpected and not something I can live with. It’s not feasible to manually resize every field in the prep stage to ensure it isn’t overlapping any other text or lines on the doc itself...and really all fields should just have transparent backgrounds all the way through the process. It’s pretty mind blowing that for some reason, only in the signing phase, they have solid backgrounds, then are finalized after execution with transparent backgrounds.

Pretty surprising and frustrating to experience with the largest eSign company out there. When someone signs a legal document, you expect the version you are signing to exactly match what it will look like when finished/executed. While I hoped Docusign would work for me for all stages of contract generation/execution, I’ll be returning to Zipforms for prep until this is resolved.
