how do i see if the person has viewed the document that needs to be signed?

If you are the Sender of the envelope you would see that a Recipient viewed the envelope in two possible ways, once with a DocuSign email notification (as long as you did not disable that email notification for your DocuSign User) or by reviewing the envelope history which provides the step by step actions taken in an envelope. Envelope History can be found by locating the envelope under the Manage, then folder of choice like Inbox or Sent, then on the dropdown to the right of the envelope, then select History.
