Does anybody know how to have someone upload a document through document generation and then be able to preview that document in the very next window once it uploads into docusign CLM?
Step 1:
Then I am not sure once this step is completed how to get it to be “previewed” automatically?
This is all done in CLM.

Welcome to the DocuSign Community!
If you create a Document Generation Configuration by uploading a document, you won’t see the preview screen immediately after the upload. To enable the preview screen, you can edit your Document Generation Configuration and enable the option highlighted in the snapshot below: By doing that a user will route the task directly.

Where is that setting located? Does it have to be tied to a workflow for the document to be previewed?

you can find that setting “Document Generation Configuration” while when you click on edit the configuration.
yes, it will be routed to first task, and it will direclty open the task in the same screen at real time.

I was hoping it could be previewed before you hit “save” the kickoff the workflow, before it even gets sent out. Do you know if that's possible?

Unfortunately, for third-party uploads, you have to rely on the workflow. It can't be directly previewed before being saved or before triggering the workflow. However, you do have a workaround to achieve this.
