Question

Witness signatures

Forum|alt.badge.img

I am reaching out to discuss a concern regarding witness signatures. We have encountered multiple instances where witnesses have signed documents several hours or even days after the original signer. This raises questions about whether the witness was actually present with the signer at the time of signing. I understand there are methods to record the location of the signer, but I would like to know if there is a way to ensure that witnesses can only sign the document if they are physically present with the individual. For example, could a code be scanned to verify their presence? Thank you.

Hello @commpropcb ,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Docusign Community. Welcome to the Docusign Community and thank you for posting your concerns!

I understand your concern about your signer and the witness not being at the same place during the signing because of the discrepancy of the time they signed the document and I'd be glad to answer your question regarding this.

Currently, with the eWitness feature, it is up to the sender to ensure that the signer and witness are co-located.

The alternative would be to use the In-Person Signing feature but the second signer will not be tagged as a witness on the document.
