Question

Default time zone

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

Hello,

I send documents out to be signed by lots of different people in my region. I have noticed that signatures without a DocuSign account are dated correctly however signatures from those who have a DocuSign account but haven’t gone so far as to change their region settings are coming through in the default pacific time zone. Given the number of recipients I send to, it’s not practical to ask them to check their region settings before sending a document. It seems a design fault that all signer accounts are set to a default of PST for the time zone.

Is there a way to take sender’s time zone for signatures instead? Or any suggested workaround?

Thank you

Hello @Hflem !

There are a few things to note in this topic:

  1. You need to know if your/users account allows users to use their own time zone, or if your administrator requires a standard time zone. (eSign Admin > Regional Settings > Allow users to set their own Time Zone and Date Format)
  2. You need to know what the default Time Zone display setting is for your account. (eSign Admin > Regional Settings > When using the Date Signed field, which Time Zone should be used?).

These two settings can directly impact the experience of how you download documents and see the time zones.

In addition, there is a third thing that when you download documents, Docusign may adjust the signing times to your specific time zone, meaning that you will always see them in your time zone, but other users may see them in their (different) time zones.

I recommend reading this article for more information: How are time zone account settings used?

Let me know if I could answer your question!

Hi @Vinicius.Rodrigues @Melanie.Panguito,

My IT admin has advised me the following:

  1. Users are allowed to set their own Time Zone (as company is global - so I have selected UTC+08:00)
  2. “Recipient” is selected for “When using the Date Signed field, which Time Zone should be used?”

My concern is that local colleagues who have a DocuSign account but haven’t manually selected their time zone to be UTC+08:00 are showing as having signed a document UTC-08:00 Pacific Time as it is the default. This would seem easy to solve, but we send documents for signing to so many different local recipients that asking each of them to update their settings is impractical.

I will test out your third point re documents adjusting to my time zone when downloaded. But any other suggestions are also appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi @Hflem ,
The time zone setting can also be automatically adjusted by Docusign, based on the user's computer date/time. This setting is usually automatically applied, unless there are rules on the local computer that do not allow access to the OS date/time repository or when there are firewall or VPN blocks involved.

This setting is automatically applied when activating a new user!
