I have a lease contract between two parties. It has a bunch of text boxes the lessor must fill in. I set them up as required for the lessor and read-only for the renter. When I (the lessor) click on the link in the signing email, these text boxes are blank and not blocking. What am I missing?

@annxprop

There are a few common causes in DocuSign that would lead to the behavior you’re seeing—namely, text fields that should be required for the lessor but end up blank and not mandatory when you open the envelope. Here’s a checklist of what to verify:

1. Make Sure Each Field Is Assigned to the Correct Recipient

2. Confirm the Signing Order & Recipient Roles

3. Double-Check Field Properties (Required vs. Optional)

4. Confirm “Read-Only” Isn’t Set for the Lessor

Note:

If you’re testing using the same email address for both Lessor and Renter (which is common in test scenarios), DocuSign can get confused about who is signing. This can result in fields not appearing correctly.
