Just recently my templates when I choose one will not allow me to edit the “message” area.  Is this something new within DocuSign?

I’m not sure if I understood well your question regarding message area of the template, but have you checked this settings in your template:

 

Also, are you the owner of the templates or has Admin permissions to edit any template in the account?
