Template issue "unable to create the envelope"

We’re getting an “unable to create the envelope” error on some of our templates for the first time today. Some of these have been used for years. When I looked for similar issues here, some people said the templates were too big when they had this issue. They are fairly large (16-18 docs), but I’ve never heard of there being a size limit for templates. 

Is there a size limit?

If not, what’s going on with this new error? We really need to be able to use these templates.

Yes, DocuSign does have size limits for templates and envelopes. Here’s what you should know:

DocuSign Size Limits

  • The total file size limit for an envelope (which includes all documents) is 25 MB.
  • The maximum number of documents in an envelope is 50.
  • The maximum number of pages per document is 5,000.

Since your templates have 16-18 documents, the number of files isn’t the issue. However, if the combined file size is close to or exceeding 25 MB, that could be causing the error.

Also, even a completed envelope using this template was only about 8,000 Kilobits, so that is clearly not the issue. I’ll open a case.

Hi, Melanie.

Thanks. The information provided was helpful, but did not resolve my issue, as my templates were nowhere near the size constraints. I am working with a DS rep to try and resolve it, though there doesn’t seem to be any definitive answer as to why this happened.
