How do I put a text field into a document that all signers can see? It seems that only the signer who is assigned the text field can see it when they are signing, but other signers can't see it until after the doc is fully signed and completed.

There is another option.

To put a text field into a document that all signers can see, make yourself the first signer.  Then after you sign (or just initial) the document, all subsequent signers will see your text fields.

Regarding text field options (for each individual text field):

To make it so that signers don't get a message to fill in the text field, "Required Field" should NOT be checked.

To make it so that signers can't change the text field, "Read Only" SHOULD be checked.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out here in the DocuSign Community.

I understand you would like the fields to be visible to all of your recipients.

There is a way to do this, however, it would affect all fields, and it is an account-wide feature, to have this changed, you would need help from the account admin.

To do this, the admin would need to go to:

  1. Settings
  2. Sending Settings
  3. Select the option "When an envelope is sent, write the initial value of the fields for all recipients": https://support.docusign.com/s/document-item?bundleId=pik1583277475390&topicId=xgg1583277350154.html&_LANG=enus
  4. Save

This will allow the fields to become visible to your recipients.

Let us know if you need further assistance with this.

Does anyone know why DocuSign allows contracts to be signed by a person who WILL NOT SEE text that someone else added to the contract BEFORE they sign, but WILL SEE that text AFTER they sign?

Tried this but the change does not apply when you use “Preview”.  Is that correct?  Do you just need to trust the change will happen when sent?  Do I need to start the template over to see the change show up in “Preview”?

Hi @Gunsjul,

This is expected behavior in DocuSign. The Preview mode won’t show the initial value of fields assigned to other recipients. But once the envelope is actually sent, the recipients will see the text field values for other recipients, as long as that setting is enabled.

So there’s no need to recreate your template. Your setup is already correct.

If you’d like to double‑check how it behaves in real signing flow, you can always send a quick test envelope using a Demo account👉Docusign Developer Account

Happy to help if you have more questions!
