I have a rather long text message I need to include to my recipients, who are typically signing contracts, and when I set up my template with the language for the message, it looks fine, with paragraphs, bullet points, spacing, alignment etc. But it seems that once the recipient receives the envelope the paragraphs are all jammed together as one huge paragraph, including my signature block.

Is there a way to keep some formatting, just paragraphs and spacing, in my messages to recipients?

@Cherel_Sw I have had success using HTML language in the Email body when sending out an envelope notification to Recipients.  For Paragraph breaks for example insert <br> which should start the next word in a new paragraph. There are a variety of other HTML options that could be useful depending on how you want the email body formatted, quick google searches should provide additional information.

Unfortunately, html formatting is not a viable answer to this issue.

It is unreasonable to expect business users to be able to parse one long continuous line of html.
As they are the ones who often need to edit/amend the message body before sending - it is after all, just a template of the message.

I understand that the envelope preview is a meant to be a brief overview, as such it contains a lot of information which a business user does not care about and needs to be concise.

On the other hand, it is the only way to preview an envelope in your inbox before starting signing.
So at least an option to toggle formatting would be welcome… e.g. something like a “show more” button underneath it, that expands the message out into a full formatted version.

Hi @damian,

Thank you for sharing your issue.

I agree that having to use HTML to format your envelope/template’s formatting is less than ideal. It is expected from the application not to show line breaks on the eSignature website but it should honor the formatting given in the template’s user interface in the actual email message delivered to your recipient.

Does this match your template’s behavior?

Also, feedback that can improve our users’ experience is always welcome. I encourage you to consider submitting your idea for review by our development team for possible implementation.
