We are limited to the number of CLM licenses that we have and can’t have the submitter to complete human steps that require licenses so i am sending an email to the customer from the approver if we need changes.  The customer would need to respond with the changes they want.  Can the response be included in the workflow so that its not outside of workflow?

You could include the response in the workflow by using an External Review step; but, since this step does not let you change the instructions that are shown to the external party, you are going to be limited to the out of the box functionality for External Review. 

 

As an alternative, you could leverage a form via eSignature to capture data or look at some of the new IAM functionality with web forms to gather information from the external party and pass it into CLM.
