Question

Why are my fields so out of alignment in eSignature?

No matter how well I line up my fields when preparing an envelope, they are ALWAYS out of alignment post signing. What am I doing wrong? This makes my signed documents look terribly untidy, no matter how much I try.

Example here where the fields are perfectly aligned and centred within each section of the document. However, the final result has them both unaligned on the left-hand side, and also out of alignment with my document.

Hello @jbeetham,

Thank you for reaching out to the Docusign Community.

Do you need the field to be in the same line?

Would it be possible for you to provide a blank copy of the document?

I feel your pain.   My favorite is instead of centering the checkbox X in the white box, or even the blue box, the output is somehow aligned towards the bottom of the blue box.

Please fix this obvious bug Docusign. It impacts most of your field types you have.

This is a proper pain!

Spending hours to place fields in the template (non-fillable PDF) only to seen the final values being placed half a line too high or too low when envelopes are signed. I honestly cannot grasp this is not a common complain.

Top, Middle, or Bottom align buttons would be nice, and the fields should have no padding.

Hi @TomD — thanks for the suggestion!

We love hearing how Docusign could be even more useful. While there is no available setting to control vertical text alignment within fields, or to remove field padding isn’t available at the moment,

the best place to share this kind of idea is on our Ideas board: Submit a feature request

That’s where ideas from Docusign users like you can submit ideas to improve Docusign’s features, and where you can also vote on ideas from other members.

We appreciate your input and hope you’ll keep the ideas coming.

Hi Cassandra,

Thank you for writing.

I do not need any help - I’ve learned and adapted.
What would be nice is if Docusign took it upon themselves to test their solution in practice and solve the challenge around getting the input text from fields correct. It is really not a difficult case to identify (see screens posted earlier in this thread).

I cannot upload pictures myself (security feature on my company’s end), but try setting up a W-8BEN form for example. Even when reducing the font to Arial size 7, you will have a challenge with fitting in the input fields without blocking the form text  - and most of the issue is excessive field padding.

On my internal forms, I consistently place my input fields lower than where they should logically be. Then the input ends up in line with the form text most of the time.

Signature blocks with Date Signed at the top and the Signature below, I have the signature field overlapping the date field by a couple of millimeters.

This is really unnecessary cumbersome. It should be possible to just trust what you see when you place the fields.

Best regards,

Thomas
