I received a document to be initialed in one location and signed in another. I clicked the initial box first wrote in my initials, then clicked the box to sign and my initials automatically populate instead of my signature with no way of changing this. I’ve tried on my iPhone and my windows desktop and I cannot find a way to change or edit the signature in the document. I’ve added new signatures to my docusign account but they do not show up either.  I’ve been fighting with this for like three hours and can’t get it to work. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @Coveandhatch1,

Thank you for reaching out here in the DocuSign Community.

I am sorry to hear that your signature is not being applied as expected, but I will gladly help you correct the issue as soon as possible.

If the envelope in question is related to your active DocuSign user, you will be able to change your signature after it was applied during the signing session, by left-clicking it and selecting "Change".

Also, you are able to update your adopted signatures in Manage Profile>Signatures.

For more details on this topic, see:

How do I change my signature or adopt a custom signature?

If the option to change your signature is not present, then you are most likely facing one of the scenarios mentioned below:

  • You do not have an active DocuSign Account
  • You are signing using:
    • DocuSign mobile apps
    • In Person Signing Session
    • Digital Signatures/Universal Signatures (CFR part 11, etc.)
    • Sign and Return
  • Sender has locked recipients names

In these scenarios, the best course of action will be reaching out to the sender so they can recreate the envelope, or update the fields related to your email address.

Feel free to let us know if you need further assistance with this.

Thank you for using DocuSign, we hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!

Best regards,

Hello!

I hope you are doing well. Please reach out to the sender regarding the two fields. The sender might have configured both boxes as initials accidentally. Normally, the signature and initials fields are different, with the signature defaulting to your name. Please confirm with the sender; thank you!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Very respectfully,

Justin Jiang
