Hi,

Thank you for following up.

By default, PowerForms will treat the first recipient as a user that lacks an active account, unless you have selected to verify the signer's email in its advanced options by selecting "Require email validation".

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out here in the DocuSign Community.

I understand that you are looking to allow the first signer in a PowerForm to view the envelope's progress in DocuSign eSignature, and I will gladly share more details on how to accomplish your goal.

By default, an active DocuSign user will be able to view an envelope's signing order in Manage>Inbox, as part of the envelope details.

When it comes to signers without a DocuSign user, there is also the option of viewing the envelope details within the signing session by selecting Other Actions>View History.

As part of the envelope history the recipients and any actions taken in the envelope will be listed.

For more details on these topics, see:

Feel free to let us know if you need further assistance with this.

Thank you for using DocuSign, we hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!

We have a powerform where the first signer has a DocuSign viewer account but is unable to see the envelope in her manage tab. Is this a setting that needs to be adjusted? Annette Howard

Hi,

In our use case, the initiator is also the first signer. He is primarily responsible for ensuring that the envelope is fully signed. Therefore, first, they must be able to monitor progress. Second, they must be notified if a subsequent recipient declines to sign. Third, they must receive an email notification when all recipients have completed the signing process.

None of these three options seem to work. How can we resolve this?

So far, the only solution we’ve found is to designate the initiator as a CC recipient in Step 1 and additionally as a signer in Step 2. However, this means that the initiator cannot sign the form directly upon starting the process but must first view the form and then open it again from the email to sign it, which is unfortunately quite cumbersome.

Thank you and best regards,
Michael

Hello @MichaelAckermann
Thanks for sharing the details. This behavior is expected with PowerForms. The initiator (even if they’re the first signer) isn’t treated as the envelope sender, so they won’t automatically have full tracking visibility or receive all notifications.
To help address your needs, you can:

  • Enable “Require email validation” in the PowerForm settings so the initiator can be better recognized
  • Add the initiator as a CC recipient to ensure they receive updates like declines and completion notifications

At this time, your current workaround works because it forces notifications, but we understand it adds extra steps for signing.
