I am new to DocuSign and didn't find this brought up in previous discussions.

It seems that all of the instructions on how to use template matching is to start a new envelope. Is there a way to initiate template matching when creating a new template? All I want to do is update the text and layout of an existing template by uploading a new version of the original document the existing template is based off of.

I see in the template list I can "Include" each template in matching, but nothing happens when I upload the new version of the existing template document, it just creates a new template and no visible way to merge the two.

Thank you for reaching out here in the DocuSign Community.  

I understand that you are looking to start your template-matching process from the Templates tab, and I will gladly share more details on the topic.

Template matching will only apply to documents being uploaded into an envelope at this moment.

As a workaround, you could upload your document without sending the envelope. This will be saved as a draft (Manage>Drafts>Save as a template) that can later be saved as a template.

OK, thanks. Seems a bit clunky, but if it works..

I would like to officially submit a feature request that template matching works in the template tab, seems reasonable enough. :)

Feedback that can improve our users’ experience is always more than welcome. 

We’ll provide it to the Product team that is closely aligned with the area associated with the feedback. They will review it and determine the next steps. 

In the near future, we will have a Community section that is dedicated to customer suggestions/feedback. You all will have the ability to upvote on what’s important and needed.  

If you’re a DocuSign Administrator for a corporate plan, you have the additional option of filing your request directly when you’re logged into your account. You’ll be able to click the “Give Feedback” button at the bottom of the screen in order to submit your idea.
