Summary certificate and signature authenticity

Hi all,

I am wondering whether a summary certificate is required for authentication of a DocuSign signature? This is to understand whether retention of the entire package received after signature is necessary or not and whether a pdf containing only a signed document can be legally binding to its full extent.
