Hi @htu,
Thank you for reaching out to the Docusign Community.
The behavior you describe is eSignature’s default, when the “Hide text with asterisks” option has been enabled for a text field. If this option was enabled, the data entered in the box will never be displayed on the document, and will only be available to the sender in the eSignature dashboard.
Based on your description of your use case I understand that your main goal is to prevent your signers from viewing each other’s sensitive data. If that is the case, then our Document Visibility feature will work best in this scenario. Document Visibility allows you to manage document access at the recipient level, either by manually adding or removing access to a document, or by defining it automatically based on signature fields in the documents. Hi Alejandro,
I believe you may have misunderstood my email. My goal is not RE: how to prevent your signers from viewing each other’s sensitive data. I was able to achieve this by enabling “hide text.”
My ask or goal is to find out if there is another solution besides the existing “Form Data” option to view hidden text once I have the completed document back. Although the “Form Data” function displays or make visible the hidden text, it’s showing in a table or separate form.
What we are looking for is to be able to print out or save the final completed document with all the values displayed on that document. Instead, currently, the final document is showing asterisks. This is not good for audit purposes. Does this make sense? Can you please assist or provide guidance?
Thank you!
Hoang
Hi @htu,
Thank you for following up.
I understand your concern, the closest option available at the moment would be the “Hide text with asterisks” setting. Nevertheless, feedback that can improve our users’ experience is always welcome. I encourage you to consider submitting your idea to be reviewed by our development team for possible implementation. If you’re a Docusign Administrator for a corporate plan, you have the additional option of filing your request through a support case, or by reaching out to your Account Team. We invite you to share your product suggestions and feature requests on our dedicated ideas page (https://community.docusign.com/ideas), where we can collaborate to shape the future of our product together. Feel free to let us know if you need further assistance with this.

@htu
When you use the “Hide text with asterisks”, the only option to retrieve the hidden values is via “Form Data”. The values are not part of the PDF, as they have been replaced with asterisks. Either the values are hidden for everyone or everyone is able to see the values, there is nothing in between.There is no option to undo this and print out a copy with the values as the sender.
If the recipients sign different documents, you could leverage the document visibility option as mentioned above. This will not work if they are providing their sensitive data into the same document, as document visibility can only be applied to documents and not to pages or fields. You may split a document into pages and then apply document visibility to those pages that should only be shown to a specific recipient without using the “hide text” feature. That way you could print out or download a copy with the actual values.
Hi @htu,
