I am new here and trying to find out how I as an Administrator I can make sure that the 2 people who need to sign a timesheet (the N+1 and the N+1 of the N+1) each have a back-up who can sign when absent, and this without the 2 people being notified ?
If you are an Enterprise Pro account holder, you can try the Signing Groups feature. It allows people in the group to open and act on document fields addressed to that group. It will notify everyone, but whomever opens the envelope first get the ability to sign.
