Question

RegEx vs Date Time on "Signature Date"

I have one small set of users who (after 10 years of using DocuSign) wants to use the time stamp with date signed field.  All of our other 1.2k users have been using DocuSign and have built templates off of the space allowed for date only (Jan-20-2026).  Is there a way to use a Regex pattern with a text field so that they can set the format of the field to whatever they want without affecting all users?  If so, can you provide the steps on how to do this?

Hello @srlee, thanks for posting here in the Docusign Community!

One option to consider is creating a copy of the existing template specifically for users who require the alternate format. This would allow them to modify the copied template without affecting the original template used by the rest of your organization.

If the goal is to display a custom date-and-time format, a Text field with Regex validation may be an option. However, please note that Regex validates the format of the text entered; it does not automatically populate the actual signing date and time like the standard Date Signed field.

1.Create a copy of the existing template for the users who need the alternate format. Do not modify the shared templates used by the other users.

2.Add a Text field where the date/time should appear.

3.Open the field properties and set Data Validation to Custom.

5.Enter a regex pattern and a validation message.

6. Save the template and share it only with that user group.

7.Test both valid and invalid entries before deployment.

If the value must be the trusted, automatically generated signing timestamp, keep using Date Signed. Regex is suitable only when manually entered or externally prefilled data is acceptable.

I hope this helps. Feel free to reach out here in the community if you have any other questions.
