Question

Incorrect Date & Time of Signing between actual Signature block and Timestamp in the Audit Trail

Why do I see, on occasions, the signing time and date in the “Signature” section are completely different from the “Timestamp”?

For example, I have a training log that shows a staff member completed the training on 05-Jun-2026 but the “Signature” block indicates that she signed on 28-May-2026 at 2:23:12 PM EDT; and the “Timestamp” section in the audit trail had this:

Sent: 5/28/2026 11:12:29 AM

Resent: 5/28/2026 4:01:32 PM

Resent: 5/29/2026 8:28:46 AM

Resent: 5/29/2026 3:51:20 PM

Resent: 6/1/2026 3:27:54 PM

Viewed: 6/1/2026 9:56:52 PM

Signed: 6/5/2026 5:52:08 PM

Would someone please help explain this?

Hello @TVo,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Docusign Community. It's great to have you here! I appreciate your taking the time to bring this to our attention.

While differences of a few hours can sometimes occur due to time zone settings, a discrepancy of several days or a week would not typically be expected.

To investigate this further, could you please send me a direct message with the Envelope ID?

Feel free to send them over once you have a chance, and I’ll be happy to take a look.

Hello @TVo,

Thank you for getting back and sharing a copy of the document. We were able to review the Envelope ID.

To clarify, the date shown next to the signature reflects the moment the signer clicked the signature tag. However, the signing process was not completed until 06/05, when the signer clicked the Finish button.

As a result, both the Date Signed and the Certificate of Completion (CoC) reflect 06/05 as the completion date. If the signer had clicked the signature tag and then immediately completed the envelope by clicking Finish on the same day, the dates would have matched.

It appears that the signer took some time to complete the signing process. The signer returned to the envelope several times before finally clicking Finish on 06/05, which is why the completion date differs from the signature date.

I hope this helps clarify things! Let us know if you have any further questions
