Hi All,

I would like to clarify the exact expiration time for a DocuSign link once the envelope is sent. One of my clients said that their link expired within 24 hours. Has the expiration period been changed to 1 day? Because previously, it’s not expired within 24 hours.

Thank you.

Hello @Fendri,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Docusign Community. It's great to have you here. I understand that you wanted to know how long an envelope link lasts before it expires. We're here to clarify the matter.

By default, requests to sign or view an envelope expire 120 days after the envelope is sent. However, an Administrator of the account can modify this value as needed. Envelope Expiration

By following these steps, Admins can adjust the envelope expiration:

  1. Go to the Admin tab.
  2. On the left panel, locate Reminders and expiration.
  3. Go to the Expiration section and set up the preferred expiration days.

    Envelope Expiration

Administrators of the account can also allow their senders to edit the expiration of the envelope they sent by ticking the "Allow senders to override account defaults."

If this is enabled on the account, senders can bypass the account expiration setting and set up their own expiration on their envelope by going to Advanced options during envelope creation.

Please also know that there are several reasons an envelope link can expire. Please see this link: Do Docusign envelope notification emails expire?

Moving forward, we recommend the following:

  1. Reach out to your Account Administrator to check your envelope expiration setting.
  2. Check if Reminders and expiration are enabled in your advanced options when creating an envelope. If it does, your admin lets you set your own expiration for your envelope.
  3. Review envelope history. Your signer might have accessed the envelope link multiple times, the reason why it expired

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Luke,

Thank you for your explanation.

But, we have miss communication here.

What I mean with link expired is “when you sent the envelopes to me today at 2.30 AM. Then let’s say I received it too at 2.30 AM, but I never open the link and I just want to open the link tomorrow at 3.00 AM, then I can’t open the link already because the link is expired.

Do you know how to set it up so that we can still open the link after 24 hours without resend it?

Thank you.

@Fendri

For most standard Docusign email invites to sign, the signature link is valid for up to 5 accesses or 48 hours, whichever comes first for unauthenticated recipients.

A bit more detail, in case it helps:

  • Unauthenticated email link (typical signer experience):
Expires after 5 clicks or 48 hours, then the signer must use a new email link or contact the sender for a fresh invite.
  • If recipient authentication is enabled (access code, SMS, SSO, etc.):
Behavior changes; often the link itself doesn’t “hard expire” in the same way, but the signer is required to re-authenticate instead, depending on the account’s access management settings.

This is documented in this Docusign Support article.
