Question

Signature issues

Hi, I've been trying to submit a form required by a university I'm applying to. I'm applying for the financial aid of that university and they require me to complete the form at DocuSign. I filled every necessary information and put my signature in the student's signature section, but when my parent tried to put his signature in the parent's signature section, he was unable to do so. It either copied my signature into his section or copied his signature into my section. When we tried to put separate signatures for our sections, it didn't allow us to do so. Basically, it's only accepting one signature in both the places. Is there any way to solve this issue? The university's website says that the form will be sent to my parent once I sign my part, but I'm not even able to "finish" the application as it keeps showing error for missing information (which is actually the unsigned part from my parent's side).

Hi @07Anu.P,

Welcome to the Docusign Community! I’m sorry for the confusion and inconvenience this has caused, especially while you’re completing an important financial aid application.

Based on what you described, the two signature fields may have been assigned to the same signer in the university’s Docusign form. When that happens, Docusign treats both fields as belonging to one recipient/signer and may reuse that recipient’s adopted signature. The labels “student” and “parent” on the document do not, by themselves, determine who can sign each field.

Please contact the person who sent the Docusign request and ask them to verify that:

  • The student and parent are set up as two separate signer recipients.

  • The student signature field is assigned to the student.

  • The parent signature field is assigned to the parent.

  • The routing order is set so the student signs first and the parent receives the request afterward.

In the meantime, you may send a screenshot here showing both of the signature fields, so we can check how it appears on your end.

If the envelope is still in progress, the university may be able to correct the recipient or field assignment. Otherwise, it may need to void the current request and send a new one. Once corrected, sign only the student field and select Finish. The parent should then use the separate invitation sent to the parent to complete the parent signature.

Either way, only the sender of the form can edit how the fields are setup.

Thank you!

Thank you for your response. The university's website says, "For students who have been determined to be dependent, you will be required to complete the form and sign as the student prior to the form being sent to the email that was provided for your parent. This will allow your parent the ability to complete their sections on the ISFAA application."

While this application is for the university, I thought of talking about the issue here because of this platform being used to complete the application. Likewise, the form wasn't sent to me but given on the University's website itself.

I have attached the screenshots of my issue. Please have a look:
Image details:

1. General signing page (where only I have made the signature)

2. My parent trying to make a new sign for his section (but it's already been occupied by my name after he simply clicked "sign")

3. The response we got after he tried to "adopt" his own signature in his section
